Dianatal® Obstetric Gel has undergone rigorous testing to establish its safety for both mother and baby¹ and contains no active drug substances. The safety of this product is assured by its CE mark accreditation.
Clinical studies undertaken with first time mothers have shown that using Dianatal® Obstetric Gel can reduce the second stage of labour by 30% for normal vaginal delivery when compared with first time mothers not using Dianatal®.¹
In the second stage of labour, often referred to as the ‘pushing stage’, the baby is moved down the birth canal as you work along with your body’s contractions. This stage may only last a matter of minutes or it can continue for several hours.
Prolonged second stage labour may not affect the mother or baby in the long term, but it does increase the likelihood of requiring instrumental delivery (‘vacuum’ or ‘forceps’ delivery) and the chance of birth complications.
Dianatal® Obstetric Gel reduces friction between the vaginal wall and baby, decreasing the chance of a prolonged second stage labour and consequently the possibility of complications such as damage to the perineum.
If your doctor needs to use forceps or a vacuum pump because of prolonged second stage labour or for other reasons, it may be necessary for the doctor or midwife to make a small cut to the opening of the vagina (an ‘episiotomy’) to reduce the chance of serious tearing and to help delivery.
In clinical studies, the use of Dianatal® Obstetric Gel was shown to significantly reduce the risk of perineal injury during normal vaginal delivery in first time mothers.
Dianatal® Obstetric Gel has been rigorously tested for safety and tolerance by clinical experts and the product has been used by over 10,000 women in Europe and the Middle East since its approval for use in 2007. No side effects have been reported to date in mothers or their babies.
Dianatal® Obstetric Gel adheres to the vaginal walls and forms a thin, lubricating layer between your baby and your birth canal to reduce friction and ease birth.
